Social
Anxiety.
Fear of being judged or embarrassed that makes it hard to speak up, join in or be seen.
What it can look like
- Speaking up
- Being watched
- New people
- Group work
- Presentations
- Avoiding
Social anxiety looks like a child who won’t raise a hand even when they know the answer, who dreads lunch and group work, who freezes with new people; or an adult who avoids meetings, phone calls and presentations and replays conversations afterward. It can be mistaken for shyness, poor social skills or autism, and sometimes travels with them. An evaluation helps tell these apart.
Getting started
