Impulsivity.
Acting or speaking before thinking, and finding it hard to wait, stop or hold back.
What it can look like
- Blurting out
- Interrupting
- Can’t wait
- Risk taking
- A quick temper
- Regret afterward
Impulsivity looks like interrupting, blurting out answers, grabbing, rushing through work, and reactions that are bigger and faster than the moment calls for. In teens and adults it can show up as impulsive spending, decisions or comments that are regretted afterward. It is a core part of ADHD for many people, and it can also go with mood difficulties or executive function weaknesses.
