What it involves
Interview with parents
An in-depth conversation about your child’s history, from pregnancy to today: birth, development, medical, social and academic history, and how things are going now.
Testing
Your child works with the evaluator, usually over several days.
School and other providers
We talk with teachers, other treating clinicians, pediatricians and care providers. Some evaluations include a school observation.
Feedback session
We go through the results with your family. Your child may or may not join.
Written report
The report brings everything together, with diagnoses and recommendations.
What to expect
What a neuropsychologist does varies widely.
Typically
- A feedback session and report
- Comprehensive recommendations and referrals
Sometimes
- Attending the IEP meeting, in person or by phone
- Taking part in an impartial hearing
Rarely
- Direct remediation or intervention
